Paul Ryan on Mitt Romney in 2016: ‘If He Were To Run, I Would Not’

‘I would defer, for sure, to Mitt’

Paul Ryan on Mitt Romney 2016: "If He Were To Run, I Would Not" (RealClearPolitics)

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), the Republican nominee for vice president in 2012, weighed in on speculation about a possible Mitt Romney presidential candidacy in 2016. Ryan told Huffington Post if his former running mate makes a third run for the presidency that he would not.

"I wouldn't if he were," Ryan told HuffPost's Marc Lamont Hill. "I would support Mitt. If he were to run, I would not. But I don't even know if I'm going to either myself. That's something I'm going to decide in 2015."

However, Ryan seemed doubtful about the prospect of Mitt 2016: "I think a lot of people, especially on our side of the aisle -- I am one of those, by the way -- think he would be a fantastic candidate. I would like to see him run again, but I think he's pretty clear that it's definitely not his intention. He's not trying to start this buzz, he's not trying to mount another comeback."
