Ron Johnson: Text Messages ‘Raise Very Serious Concerns About What Is Happening in the FBI’

‘It is my responsibility to keep digging’

EXCERPT:

HEMMER: "Did your informant confirm that these off-site meetings took place?"
JOHNSON: "Now, listen, I've never -- I -- I -- the term secret society comes from Strzok and Page. All I said when I read that it didn’t surprise me because we are the committee that whistleblowers come to to talk about all kinds of problems throughout the federal government. And so I had heard of a group of people within the FBI holding secret off-site meetings. So I was just kind of connecting the dots. It didn’t surprise me when I heard that term. But again, that's Strzok and Page’s term, not mine."
HEMMER: "OK. Just to be clear then, are you backing off of what was spoken last night?"
JOHNSON: "No, I’m saying exactly the same thing. I -- you know I have heard from somebody who's talked to our committee that there was a group of individuals in the FBI that was hold -- that were holding secret off-site meetings."
HEMMER: "OK."
JOHNSON: "And again, it's Strzok and Page calling it a certain term. I’m just saying off-site meetings."
HEMMER: "Important stuff here. How much agents were involved in these alleged meetings?"
JOHNSON: "I -- I -- I'm not going to start pointing fingers from that standpoint again. I’m -- I'm connecting the dots. Bill, I've been -- my committee has jurisdiction over federal records. We’ve been investigating the Clinton email scandal since 2015. We pretty well dropped it after the election -- pretty much at the direction of President Trump. He said, we don't prosecute people that we beat in the elections. But then, once the office of the inspector general began its inspection and we found out about these texts -- these texts pretty well laid in my lap as well and they -- they really do raise very serious concerns about what is happening in the FBI. It is my responsibility to keep digging."
