MSNBC: Axios Reports FBI Director Threatened to Resign over Pressure by Sessions to Fire McCabe

‘Three sources that says FBI director Christopher Ray threatened to resign after a threat from Jeff Sessions to fire acting director’

GEIST: “Axios is out with a new report that cites three unnamed sources who say F.B.I director Christopher Wray threatened to resign after pressure from Attorney General Jeff Sessions to fire F.B.I. deputy director Andrew McCabe. According to Axios, Sessions told White House Counsel Don McGahn about how upset Wray was about the supposed pressure on him to fire McCabe. Source familiar with the situation told Axios that White House Counsel McGahn told Sessions that this issue wasn’t worth losing the F.B.I. director over. NBC News could not confirm the Axios report. The White House response called Wray a true man of character and the right choice to clean up the F.B.I’s leadership, but it did not address the allegation, stating in part, 'President Trump believes politically motivated senior leaders, including former Director Comey and others he empowered have tainted the agency’s reputation for unbiased pursuit of justice.'”
