New York, 22 September (Argus) — The US is contributing $15mn to a World Bank program to cut methane emissions from facilities such as landfills and waste treatment plants, secretary of state John Kerry said today.

The money will go to the World Bank's pilot auction facility program, which aims to set up a guaranteed price for each metric tonne of methane reduced at participating facilities.

Kerry announced the contribution during remarks kicking off Climate Week in New York City, a series of events timed to the UN Climate Summit tomorrow. The State Department says that later this week it will announce partnerships with oil and gas companies to cut methane.
