Curbelo on Tax Bill: ‘The Degree of Intimidation on the Left Is Truly Astounding’

CURBELO: "Stuart, you’re right. The degree of intimidation on the left is truly astounding. I have many Democratic colleagues and friends who tell me privately, 'You know what? There’s a lot we like in this tax bill, but we can’t say it publicly because it will ruin our standing within the party.' So you’re absolutely right. And this is a shame because this is a bill that has a lot for low and middle income Americans. We all know how hard Marco Rubio fought for that expanded child tax credit. We know the doubling of the standard deduction helps lower and middle income families the most, rate reduction for everyone, and of course, the opportunity for higher paychecks , more and better jobs in this country. So I really hope, and I don’t have a lot of hope, but I hope that from today until tomorrow when we will have the House vote and then Wednesday the Senate vote, we can get some Democratic colleagues to come on board and say, 'You know what? This may not be perfect, but there’s a lot of good here and we can’t let the good, the perfect be the enemy of the good.'"
