Steve Schmidt Goes on a Tear Against Fox News: Like ‘Propaganda in Authoritarian Countries’ (Mediaite)

Steve Schmidt went on a tear against Fox News this afternoon over “breathtaking dishonesty” in talking about the FBI.

The anti-Trump texts sent between two FBI agents have been big news this week, but over the past few days there’s been a lot of heated anti-FBI rhetoric on Fox (with even comparisons to the KGB).

On MSNBC this afternoon, Nicolle Wallace showed some of those Fox clips, including a Sean Hannity panel when the host said, “Watergate on steroids.”

John Heilemann said when you watch those clips, you see “useless idiots.”

Wallace said Hannity is “the tip of the spear in the smear campaign,” but Schmidt went a hell of a lot farther:

“That Fox News panel––the breathtaking dishonesty of it is beyond my ability to articulate. That is no longer a news organization. That is what American state media looks like. That is what White House-controlled in-the-service-of-the-president misinformation looks like. That is indistinct from propaganda in authoritarian countries. It is aimed directly at weakening essential institutions and misinforming the American people. It is appalling.”
