The future of the NATO alliance and peace in Europe depend on a forceful U.S. response to Russian aggression against Ukraine, Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko told a joint session of Congress Thursday morning.

Ukraine's democracy and its defenders need more political support and more military equipment, Poroshenko declared.

So far, the Obama administration has refused to provide lethal aid, for fear of escalating tensions. Poroshenko said blankets and night-vision goggles from the USA are important, "but one cannot win a war with blankets!"
