WH Dir. of Leg. Affairs Marc Short: The President Is Bringing Everyone Together to get a Budget Deal
SHORT: "Well, let me tell you where I think we are. We have agreed to in essence have a two-year budget deal. We have agreed to break the sequester and agreed to where we are on defense spending, but we have not agreed on the non-defense spending angle. Keep in mind, Congress should pass the appropriations bills by September 30th. The president is here trying to bring the parties together because we are now close to Christmas eve without yet having Congress actually function in a way that gets the spending bills passed."
