Andrea Mitchell: Trump’s Pleasing the Evangelical Base Ahead of the Alabama Election with Jerusalem Decision

‘This is something the vice president strongly wanted’

MITCHELL: "In fact, there is no such Saudi blessing. Overnight I was in touch with them again, and the Saudi embassy said very clearly, 'We categorically condemn this.' The ambassador here conveyed this, that there were warnings and that the king’s denunciation of this was absolutely clear to the president after it happened, and as he was about to announce this. So they are saying absolutely that they are not siding with Israel. They have, you know, I mean other ways against Iran; yes Iran is their biggest problem. The other piece is this was timed because of the waiver, but they wanted to get this out before Alabama. There’s a large Evangelical vote down there."
GEIST: "So Bob Woodward --"
MITCHELL: "And so there -- this is basically going to the Evangelical Republicans and Sheldon Adelson."
