MSNBC’s Mohyeldin: Palestinian Authority Saying ‘Yesterday’s Decision Was a Death Blow To the Two-State’ Process

‘It is time to call for equal rights for all citizens’

EXCERPT:

MOHYELDIN: "We’re hearing strong language from the senior levels of Palestinian authority, including its chief negotiator, somebody who has sat at the table with Americans and Israelis, saying that the United States is no longer an impartial broker, they can no longer be trusted to mediate this process. And interestingly enough, saying that yesterday’s decision was a death blow to the two-state solution and it is time now to call for a one-state solution with equal rights for all citizens, and that would be by some accounts catastrophic, depending on who you ask. And that again goes back to the point that you guys were talking about. Does the timing of this decision undercut the very stated objective of trying to establish the peace process? So, you have those two simultaneous track unfolding: the pressure and the reaction from Arab governments and the Palestinian authority, and on the street level, we’re starting to see an increase with some of these protests and rallies and demonstrations. There was a general strike today, students have been let out of school, so we are expecting the situation to develop in the coming hours and ahead of tomorrow’s Friday prayers."
