Rep. Rodgers: If ObamaCare Mandate Repeal Must Come out To Pass Tax Bill, We Can Live with That

‘The Senate needs to prove they have the votes to get it out of the Senate’

RUSH TRANSCRIPT:

PERINO: "So let me ask you then about this. Mick Mulvaney was on the talk shows. The Senate included in its bill. Let’s hear what he said from the White House."
RODGERS: "I don’t think anybody doubts where the president is on repeal and replace. The house would love to see ObamaCare taken apart however we can do it. If a good tax bill can pass, great. If it needs to come out in order for the good tax bill to pass, we can live with that as well."
PERINO: "Do you have a preference on whether it’s in or out?"
RODGERS: "I’m curious if Senate can get the votes. Yes, they passed it out of committee. The Senate needs to prove they have the votes to get it out of the Senate. Then we’ll go to conference committee. If the Senate is able to get those votes, I believe the house will look at this as an opportunity to get the repeal of the individual mandate."
PERINO: "Do you think you’d lose any house votes over that issue?"
RODGERS: "Well, I think the house has already taken action on the repeal of the individual mandate through the replace and repeal. We took that action in the spring. This is a top priority for the Republicans. We want a better healthcare future and we want tax reform that’s going to improve people’s lives, increase those take home pays and create more jobs in America. There’s two very important priorities. The house is going to wait to see if the Senate can actually produce the votes."
PERINO: "That’s always a big question if the Senate can match what the house is doing. Question about a democratic group. They are launching a seven figure ad by against house Republicans and many different districts, I know you would care about. Their main issue is seeing the GOP changes only benefit the wealthy. They’re also hammering this issue about the bill leading to $25 billion in Medicare cuts. From the house conference standpoint, how are you going to push back against that?"
RODGERS: "It’s simply not true that there’s going to be any cuts. Not true. Highest corporate rate in the world. 75% tax cut for those average income earners. Remarks and points by the Democrats. We’re on the verge of getting this economy growing, getting people back to work. We’ve had stagnant wages, stagnant economy for way too long. Tax reform is needed for everyone."
