Lee Zeldin on Tax Bill: ‘I Have Too Many Constituents Who Will Be Paying Higher Taxes’

‘We’ll need to make a little more progress in order to take care of my constituents’

EXCERPT:

ZELDIN: "Just yesterday I had conversations with some White House officials and leadership in the House. This bill can be improved. It’s important for more of my constituents to be seeing tax relief. We’re not there yet. I have too many constituents who will be paying higher taxes. So if we can work through those issues with regards to state and local tax deduction is one. It was progress that we saw a $10,000 property tax deduction cap. But we’ll need to make a little bit more progress in order to take care of my constituents. And Senator Johnson brought up the pass-through issue. That’s a big deal if you are a personal service. There are some people who will be getting larger tax increases because of the way the pass-through rules are structured. If that could be fixed. And one other point, the Senate, for example, has the million dollars on the mortgage interest deduction. They have the medical expense deductions. There are good things in both bills and we need to bring the good things of both bills together and also make an important improvement on the state and local tax deduction."
