Przybyla: Trump ‘Is Very Thrilled... with the Rolling out of the Red Carpet for Him’

‘We’re seeing that his strategy of trying to cut these bilateral deals isn’t really going to work out so well because these countries really aren’t compelled to negotiate them with us’

EXCERPT:

PRZYBYLA: "We’re seeing that he is very thrilled, however, with the pageantry, with the rolling out of the red carpet for him. But what is the deal materially, even by his own standards, that he is walking away from this summit with in terms of bilateral trade deals? Secondly, we all remember that beating up on China, labeling China currency manipulator, that was the beating heart of his populous message during the campaign trail. And what did we also see on this trip is that once he came face-to-face with the Chinese leader, he really retrenched from that. He said, 'It’s actually our own fault. It’s been the bad deals of our leaders. I could see that you would want to take advantage of us.' That’s a huge comedown from the language that he used in the campaign trail, which is that China is raping us. So, to your point, yes, this is what he promised, was to take us out of these big trade deals, so it's not surprising that these countries are moving ahead without us. But at the same time, we’re seeing that his strategy of trying to cut these bilateral deals isn’t really going to work out so well because these countries really aren’t compelled to negotiate them with us.”
