Flashback: Obama Promises Executive Action on Immigration by End of Summer

‘I expect the recommendation before the end of the summer; and I intend on adopting those recommendations without further delay’

Today the White House announced that the president would not sign any immigration-related executive orders until after the November elections. This differs from promises made earlier this summer. Speaking at a White House press conference June 30, 2014, President Obama pledged to unilaterally enact immigration reforms before the end of the summer:

"I have also directed Secretary Johnson and Attorney General holder to identify additional actions mike administration can take with them might own is in my existing legal authorities to do what Congress refuses to do and fixes much of the immigration system as we can. I expect the recommendation before the end of the summer. And I intend on adopting those recommendations without further delay."
