Geraldo: ‘The Diversity Visa Lottery Program Has Probably Outlived Its Usefulness’

‘It is just random selection from lottery that aren’t represented’

EXCERPT:

GERALDO: "Well, I think the diversity visa lottery program has probably outlived its usefulness, Steve, at least in my opinion. It’s unscientific. It is just random selection from countries that aren’t represented. It is a lottery. And when you have a choice by chance, you take your chances. And I think that when you recall that the so-called Gang of Eight and their immigration reform that I supported a couple of years ago, they were going to dump this program. In fairness to the program, this is a reaction, a diversity visa lottery program is a reaction to generations of race and ethic-based immigration. We favored — I mean, it’s in the law. I’m not making this up. I’m not making a political argument. It’s just that we had a race-based immigration. We wanted immigrants that look like our Founding Fathers. Even Catholics at one point were excluded. Then the Chinese. Then some of the other various ethnic groups. So I think this was a reaction to the race-based immigration program. But it has outlived its usefulness. Senators on both sides of the aisle want it ended. They agree with the president. It is too unscientific. There have been other potential terrorists who have been nabbed or who used or took advantage of this program. So I think it’s fine. Let’s get rid of it."
