Steve Kornacki: Hard for Me to See How $100K in Russian Facebook Ads Swayed the Election

‘I think Trump has put this in perspective’

EXCERPT:

KORNACKI: “Clearly, it’s case after case you’ve seen the examples of Donald Trump reacting in a way on stories about Russia that really no other major politician reacts. I will say on this one in particular, it also seems to be getting tied up with the question of, ‘So Russia was putting these ads up there on Facebook. Did it sway the election?’ And you see in his tweets the attempt to say it didn’t sway the election. On that question, I think Trump is on some pretty solid ground. If you just put this in perspective here, you probably had about 100 grand ads in Russian spending on these ads on Facebook. The digital ad budget for the Trump campaign alone was $90 million. The amount spent by the two campaigns on behalf of the two candidates easily dwarfed a billion dollars. This election dominated American news media, popular culture, mass media culture for about a year and a half. In that context, saying $100,000 were put on some Facebook ads is hard for me to see how that would sway the election.”
