Kinzinger: ‘Sickening’ that Rep. Wilson Made Fallen Soldiers Political

MacCALLUM: "Before we get to ongoing investigation I want to get your thoughts on the backed a forth between general Kelly and congresswoman Wilson."
KINZINGER: "It is sickening to me. This all started with congresswoman Wilson saying that the president said terrible things. Frankly if I was unfortunately killed in combat and the president called my dad or my mom and said hey, Adam knew the risk and still took the risk and still defended his country that would be the highest compliment a president could pay. This person heroically walked in to a situation where he knew that his life could end. That is it. We have gotten into the habit lately of basically speaking to our military if they are victims, as if they are victims of the decisions by the lawmakers. These are tough warriors every day making decisions to defend the country. When congresswoman Wilson said I must be a rock star now because the president knows who I am or general Kelly says an empty barrel and she says that sounds racist, this is the same person in my class in 2010 came in and was told she couldn’t wear hats on the floor of the house of representatives and she said that was sexist. Everything is not an “IST.” Everything is not — not every decision or everything is a victimhood. The reality is this amazing green beret made a decision to put his life on the line to defend his country. He did that. The president called the family to express condolences. I think congresswoman Wilson decided to make it political. It’s unfortunate. There have to be some things that are sacred cows and this is it. If you defend and give your live for the country it doesn’t matter if you are left or right there is no political gain either way with this."
