Brady: We’re on a Timetable to Get Tax Reform on Trump’s Desk by the End of the Year

‘We know that’s an ambitious timetable’

EXCERPT:

HEMMER: "Big news from Capitol Hill. The Senate passing a budget last night clearing the way to make a move on tax reform with a simple majority vote. This could be a big deal. Kevin Brady Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee live back in his state of Texas who joins us to talk about this and more. Sir, thank you for coming back and good morning to you."
BRADY: "Yes, sir. Thank you, Bill."
HEMMER: "Is it at all possible the House would just simply take the Senate’s measure and push it through so you can be looking at a vote by Thanksgiving? Is that -- is that in the works?"
BRADY: "Look, so -- yes from the standpoint of our chairman, worked with the Senate Budget on the bill they voted on last night making sure we had really common ground in this. So I think there is a very clear possibility that the House clears this next week. That clears the way for the Ways and Means committee both to release the tax form bill and the timetable for the mark-up. So the first action in 31 years since President Reagan’s reforms in 1986, that begins very quickly."
HEMMER: "So could it be, then, that Americans see what’s in it for them in a week? What are the brackets, what’s in it for them, why should they support it? When -- when will that be public?"
BRADY: "Yeah. Yeah. It all pivots off the budget when that is signed, sealed and delivered we’ll announce both the date for the tax reform plan and the Ways and Means Committee mark-up as well. So the answer is very soon. And this keeps us on the timetable to get this to the president’s desk by the end of the year. We know that’s an ambitious timetable. We think look, America is falling behind, people are sick of this tax code. It’s time to move."
