Gillian Turner: Bush Feels Trump Including North Korea on the Travel List Was a Mistake

‘If you ban them from coming here this discourages the dissidents’

RUSH EXCERPT:

HEMMER: "Would you expect criticism for the current administration? I don’t see it that way."
TURNER: "I would be very surprised. It is not his style to really speak out when he thinks other presidents are falling short. It is also a very critical juncture we find ourselves in. U.S. Policy could go in any number of new directions under President Trump’s leadership. I don’t think he wants to be seen as weighing in prematurely as influencing the president. But I have heard that privately he has expressed criticism of President Trump’s decision to include North Korea on the recently reissued third version of the travel ban. He feels that was a mistake."
HEMMER: "How come?"
TURNER: "The argument goes that if you ban North Koreans from traveling to the United States, not many do anyway. If you ban them from coming here this discourages the dissidents, the people who oppose Kim Jong-un where he lives. These are the good guys. The guys we need to support. It discourages them from fleeing."
HEMMER: "President Trump goes to Asia in early November. He may make a stop along the dmz. This is something that the world will be watching for."
