MSNBC: Tom Marino Withdraws from Consideration as Drug Czar

President Trump said, Representative Tom Marino has informed me that he’s withdrawing his name from consideration as drug czar

EXCERPT:

WELKER: "Let me read you the tweet and then do some analysis on the other side. President Trump said, 'Representative Tom Marino has informed me that he’s withdrawing his name from consideration as drug czar. Tom is a fine man and a great congressman!' Let me give you a backstory on this. This comes after a '60 Minutes/Washington Post' report which found that Congressman Marino sponsored legislation that effectively made it a whole lot more difficult for the DEA to crack down on suspicious narcotics shipments from drug distribution companies, effectively stripping it of its authority. Highly controversial developments and revelations that came to pass at the beginning of this week. I actually asked the President about it during that impromptu news conference in the Rose Garden yesterday, asked him if he still had confidence in Marino, and he said he was very concerned about the report, that he was taking a very hard look at Marino. So all signs were pointing in this direction. Look, Marino was an early supporter of President Trump. One other point I'll make, Claire McCaskill, the senator from Missouri has said that she's going to move to repeal that legislation that Marino backed amidst this revelations."
