McConnell: Obama Would Have Our Support for Expanded Strikes Against ISIS

‘I think he’s very likely to get support’

McConnell: Obama Would Have ‘A Lot of Congressional Support’ for Action Against ISIL (Washington Free Beacon)

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) in an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash said President Obama would have “a lot of congressional support” if he were to choose to strike ISIL in Syria and Iraq.

“I think it would make sense for him to get our support. It’s pretty clear ISIS is a serious threat. They have the potential to hit us here at home. He’s the President of the United States and, if he’s prepared to try to prevent that, I’m sure he will have a lot of congressional support,” McConnell said.

Earlier in the day McConnell said he approved of President Obama’s handling of the ongoing conflict with ISIL.

“I think the President now, at this point – this will shock you when I say it – at this point, is doing the right thing.”
