FEMA’s Long Battles MSNBC’s Velshi & Ruhle over Puerto Rico: ‘The Problem Is Misinformation’

‘I would be happy to embed your cameramen with our teams’

EXCERPT:

VELSHI: "Joining us now is FEMA administrator Brock Long who, credit to you, sir, we’ve been talking for weeks through Harvey, through Irma, through Maria, and one thing that you have pointed out is that the money issue is sort of not stopping you from doing your work. That’s a congressional issue. But we have been hearing from our correspondents about this bottleneck of supplies at the port of San Juan where there are apparently lots of things right there in the port, we see pictures of it, and yet you just saw Mariana Atencio in a town that is not half an hour from San Juan and they are paying for ice to refrigerate their food and medication. What’s wrong with this picture, sir?"
LONG: "The problem is misinformation. First of all, we don’t charge anything for ice and food and commodities. That’s not us. The second thing is —"
RUHLE: "Hold on, sir. We’re not saying it was FEMA charging. But in terms of misinformation —"
VELSHI: "Some people are paying for ice."
RUHLE: "We just reported on it. And we reported honestly and directly, people we just saw two minutes ago, 30 minutes outside of San Juan, that’s not misinformation buying ice and waiting six hours for it. That’s not a lie."
LONG: "Listen to me. The bottom line is, FEMA does not sell commodities."
