Dolphins Player Explains Sitting for Anthem: ‘People that Don’t Have Equality Aren’t Being Heard’

‘It almost seemed to me they’re being intimidated not to speak, and stand up for what they believe in’

RUSH TRANSCRIPT:

BURNETT: "You're number 89. There you are kneeling during the national anthem, along with several of your teammates, what made you decide to kneel yesterday?"
THOMAS: "You know, I think the thing for me was, I was never compelled to kneel before, before I always felt I had a different role. I had something else I should do to really advance my cause, and after I heard the president's comments -- and just the difference in characterization he had for my fellow peers taking a silent protest, in comparison to the way he characterized people that were preaching hate, it really struck me. To hear all the people and all the cheering and the people that agreed with the president after using that type of language. It helped me understand there's big issues going on in our country. The voices of the people that don't have equality aren't being heard. It almost seemed to me they're being intimidated not to speak, and stand up for what they believe in."
