Amb. Burns: Trump Admin Deserves Credit for Handling N. Korea, New Trade Sanctions

‘This is the right step by the Trump Administration, it’s a smart move’

EXCERPT:

BURNS: “Well, this is the right step by the Trump Administration, it’s a smart move, because it increases the financial pressure on the North Koreans. And if it’s combined with this announcement over the last couple of minutes that the Chinese central bank may have ordered its affiliate institutions to stop lending to North Korea, you could finally have some leverage. And I think you’re right, this is all designed to push the North Koreans away from testing nuclear weapons and ballistic missile tests and towards negotiations. That’s where the administration clearly wants to go. And if you will, it’s taking a page from what the Bush and Obama administrations did so effectively on Iran on financial sanctions, unilateral U.S. sanctions to accompany the U.N. Security Council one, so I think the Trump Administration deserves some credit here.”
