SCOTT: “This decision was made due to our sole focus on life safety as Hurricane Irma approaches Florida. You can find more information on these evacuations at floridadisaster.org/info. Right now, the National Hurricane Center is reporting that Hurricane Irma remains a dangerous and life-threatening category 4 storm with winds of 155 mph. A storm surge warning is in effect for Jupiter and southward around the Florida peninsula to Bonita Beach and the Florida Keys. A storm surge watch is in effect for north of Jupiter and Sebastian Inlet, north of Bonita Beach to Venice. The storm surge is forecast to be 3 to 10 feet in many areas, which is life-threatening."
