Mike Morell: Current Iraq Strategy ‘Is Not Going To’ Destroy ISIL (Washington Free Beacon)

Former CIA Deputy Director Michael Morell said the current strategy being carried out by the Obama administration is “not going to destroy” ISIL.

Host Charlie Rose asked Morell what was the ultimate goal of the current U.S. strategy in Iraq.

“The goal in the short-term is to keep the ISIS fighters from taking over Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan in the north and to free the religious group that has been trapped in the mountains there. That seems to be working. But what is going to take a lot more work, Charlie, is to actually degrade the group and to destroy the group. What we’re doing right now is not going to do that,” Morell argued.
