CNN: Email Reportedly Shows Effort to Arrange Meeting Between Putin and Team Trump (Mediaite)

CNN reported this evening that Congressional investigators in the Russia probe have discovered an email from Trump campaign policy aide Rick Dearborn that is now drawing scrutiny as it shows previously unreported efforts to arrange a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Trump campaign.

According to CNN’s sources, Dearborn, who is currently the president’s deputy chief of staff, sent the email to officials in the campaign in June 2016. This was also around the time of the infamous Donald Trump Jr./Russian lawyer meeting. The email Dearborn sent was relaying info from a person who was attempting to arrange the Putin meeting.

As CNN noted in its report, Dearborn appeared to express skepticism about the meeting request. As for the person who sent the request, it seems the individual may be someone with political connections in West Virginia, but that remains unclear.

The CNN story suggested that the previously unreported email showed that the Russians may have been looking for another way into the Trump campaign to see if they were willing to work in a partnership to defeat Hillary Clinton.
