Trump Hints that He’ll Pardon Sheriff Joe Arpaio: ‘I Think He’s Going To Be Just Fine’ (Mediaite)

Midway through his off-the-rails campaign rally speech in Phoenix Tuesday night, President Donald Trump hinted that he would pardon Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was convicted of criminal contempt last month for defying a court order to stop detaining undocumented immigrants.

After White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Trump wouldn’t be pardoning Arpaio at the rally, following the Phoenix mayor imploring Trump to postpone the speech if he were going to do that, the president teased that he’ll be making that announcement eventually.

“By the way, I’m just curious. Do the people in this room like Sheriff Joe? So was Sheriff Joe convicted for doing his job? That’s what — he should have had a jury but you know what? I’ll make a prediction. I think he’s going to be just fine. Okay? But, but I won’t do it tonight because I don’t want to cause any controversy. Is that okay? All right? But Sheriff Joe can feel good.”
