Chuck Schumer on Dem Refusal to Work With GOP: ‘We Are Not Entrenched’

‘People on the other side have this ideological view that is so detached from the reality that they’re removed from it’

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) claimed at a press conference on Tuesday that Democrats “are not entrenched” and would work with Republicans.

This was a different message than the one that Democrats, including Schumer, previously communicated as Republicans tried to craft a replacement for the 2010 health care law, according to The Washington Examiner:

Rep. Linda Sanchez, D-Calif., the vice chair of the Democratic caucus, told reporters that if Republicans repeal Obamacare, they will be forced to go about the replacement process “alone” and without working with Democrats. The California Democrats’ remarks echo those from Senate Minority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., who last week pinned all responsibility on their Republican colleagues.

Liberal firebrand Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), while not technically a Democrat, laughed off the suggestion that Democrats would work with Republicans, calling it “an absurd idea.”

However, this didn’t stop Schumer from claiming that Democrats had been trying to work with Republicans, only to be rejected.

“People on the other side have this ideological view that is so detached from the reality that they’re removed from it,” the New York Democrat said. “That’s not us.”
