Two anchors on MSNBC — where the Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Russian attorney is being described as proof the Trump Administration is taking orders from the Kremlin — admitted they were utterly unaware of the Clinton campaign taking oppo research from a foreign country.

President Trump this morning tweeted: “Why aren't the same standards placed on the Democrats. Look what Hillary Clinton may have gotten away with. Disgraceful!”

The tweet was in reference to the Democratic National Committee and allies of the Clinton campaign working with Ukranian government to collect and disseminate negative information about Donald Trump.

MSNBC's Brian Williams and Andrea Mitchell admitted Wednesday they had never even heard of the story.

"What we’ve heard from the president again, three minutes ago on Twitter -- I’m hoping you can help me decipher this -- 'Why aren’t the same standards placed on the Democrats. Look what Hillary Clinton may have gotten away with; Disgraceful'" Williams reported to his colleague. "Do you want to take a whack at that?”

“I’m trying to figure it out myself," Mitchell replied. "Earlier he called it a witch-hunt, so he’s still on the fake news or what the Democrats are doing, that combo. Perhaps this is a reference to e-mails, since his son voluntarily tweeted out a whole e-mail chain. Nobody was forcing him to do that other than the questions that were raised by ‘The New York Times,’ and they said they were about to reveal them themselves. So he voluntarily released his e-mails, so perhaps it’s an e-mail reference, but it’s hard to figure out what this is about.”

Unlike the Trump Jr. meeting, where no oppo research was accepted, Politico reports the Clinton camp did take oppo research from the Ukranians.

A Ukrainian-American operative who was consulting for the Democratic National Committee met with top officials in the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington in an effort to expose ties between Trump, top campaign aide Paul Manafort and Russia, according to people with direct knowledge of the situation.

Meanwhile, on CNN, Jake Tapper said it's unimportant the Ukranians were working to get Clinton elected because "Hillary lost." [Video]

Is it the principle that's at stake here, or tearing down Trump?

The media's uneven reporting suggests it's the latter.
