Hawaii Senator: Nobody Should Worry Whether They Can Afford Health Care

‘Nobody should have to worry about whether they can afford the health care that one day might save their life’

HIRONO: “We are all one diagnosis away from having a serious illness. Lots of us believe that getting a serious illness is something that happens to other people. I was one of them. My moment of reckoning came two months ago. During a routine physical, my doctor told me I have kidney cancer. It’s a moment everyone dreads. Thankfully, I have health insurance. I was able to sit down with my doctors and decide how I would fight my cancer, not how I would pay for treatment. Nobody should have to worry about whether they can afford the health care that one day might save their life.”
