LUTE: "Well, so you see the vice president and the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Defense all going to NATO in the first several months of this administration and being very clear and unequivocal about U.S. commitment to the alliance. But then you have the president himself, for the first time, at NATO headquarters on May 25th, seemingly reversing all that. And deliberately not reaffirming U.S. commitment to the “attack on one is an attack on all” pledge, which is the bedrock pledge of the alliance. And frankly being rather disrespectful of allies in public, in a public presentation. So allies are sort of whip sawed between key advisers and the president himself, and wonder, I think, who actually speaks for this administration?"
