Matthews Blasts Trump, Lawyer for Being Evasive: ‘We’ve Got a Mouthpiece with a Mouthpiece’

‘I’ve never seen a White House so good at avoiding responsibility for anything’

Matthews Blasts Trump, Lawyer for Being Evasive: ‘We’ve Got a Mouthpiece with a Mouthpiece’ (Mediaite)

Following Wednesday night’s Washington Post report that special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating President Donald Trump for possible obstruction of justice, Chris Matthews railed against the evasiveness of the Trump White House.

Speaking on Hardball, Matthews referenced the fact that Trump’s outside counsel, Marc Kasowitz, has a spokesperson of his own through whom he’s speaking.

“Now we’ve got a mouthpiece with a mouthpiece,” Matthews said. “This is outrageous.”

Later in the show, Matthews added, “I’ve never seen a White House so good at avoiding responsibility for anything.”

The Hardball host said that he wasn’t surprised by the reports that Trump was considering firing Mueller.

“Trump, if history is any indication, is going to try to control this, going to try to get in front of this, and that’s where he could run into even more headaches,” Matthews said.

He added (in a later portion of the show not included above), “He fired Sally Yates. He fired [Preet] Bharara. He just keeps firing people who might just come out with the truth. He can’t fire Mueller.”
