Krauthammer: The President Will Ultimately Decide on Afghanistan

‘Mattis is going to check with the president before he raises levels of engagement’

RUSH TRANSCRIPT:
WALLACE: "Charles, what do you think? The president's giving this decision to the defense secretary."
KRAUTHAMMER: "It doesn't matter in practical matters because the president will ultimately decide. Mattis is going to check with the president before he raises levels but there is something odd about the president formally delegating as if it is the 25th amendment and that he's not sort of responsible. That this is not his area of responsibility. Clearly the national security of the country's number one, most important issue. It's odd that he would make this announcement. I would point out as the Obama counterexample, not exactly successful in his deciding on troop levels. Troop surge in Iraq and where we are in Afghanistan because of his policies."
