Former President Barack Obama warned against the appeal of populism and authoritarianism during a speech in Canada on Tuesday, citing the U.S.'s withdrawal from the Paris climate accord as an example.
 

BARACK OBAMA: When the top 1 percent amass a bigger and bigger and a bigger share of wealth and income, the concern among many in our countries is that the game if fixed against them. And it doesn't help when sometimes those who benefit from globalization appear to use their political power to further undermine the position of workers... And it is part of what leads people to turn to populist alternatives that may not actually deliver, but are tempting...
