Schiff: Conversations Intel Chiefs Had with Trump Are Not Classified; No Legal Basis to Decline

‘It is clear from the witnesses today there has been no claim of executive privilege and there is no basis for them to refuse to answer’

EXCERPT:

SCHIFF: "These conversations are not classified. It is clear from the witnesses today there has been no claim of executive privilege and there is no basis for them to refuse to answer. The fact that they may not prefer to answer, or the fact that the White House may prefer that they don’t answer, and that they don’t want to have to invoke executive privilege, that is not a legal basis for them to decline these very important questions. It is also not enough in my view to try to hide behind a closed session. The American people have a right to know if their president is interfering in any way with the investigations being conducted by Congress or the FBI. They should answer those questions. We are certainly going to see if we can get to the bottom of that in closed session."
