Gergen: Withdrawal from Climate Deal ‘Immoral,’ ‘Grotesquely Irresponsible’

‘It’s a terrible setback for the planet’

EXCERPT:

GERGEN: "We represent as a country 4 percent of the world’s population, but we represent about a third of all the excess carbon dioxide that's now warming the planet. We’re the largest contributor of carbon dioxide in the world. And for us to walk away, as this carbon dioxide threatens the future of our grandchildren, for us to walk away from that is grotesquely irresponsible. It’s also true that the nations that are going to pay the greatest price for global warming are the poor nations of the world, and yet they contribute the least to global warming. We have contributed the most. For us to walk away from that is immoral."
