Sam Stein: When Trump Doesn’t Take Questions Abroad He’s Saying He Doesn’t Respect the 1st Amendment

‘He doesn’t specifically respect that type of 1st Amendment access’

EXCERPT:

STEIN: "If you are not allowing your own press access, if you're not taking questions, what kind of message then can you send to other world leaders saying, you know, no, no, you need to have freedom of the press. You need to have access. I remember there were moments when Obama was traveling overseas, where I believe Robert Gibbs, then press secretary had to put his foot literally in the door as they were trying to slam the door on the American press, one of these countries, and that was a very symbolic moment, it was very important moment; it said America stood for the freedom of the press. When Trump doesn’t take questions he’s not just hiding himself, he's sending a message to the world that we don’t — and he doesn’t specifically respect that type of 1st Amendment access."
