W.H. Defends Trump Asking Comey if He Was Under Investigation

‘Several legal scholars have weighed in on this and said there was nothing wrong with the president asking that question’

EXCERPT:

GARRETT: "At the Justice Department there’s a general protocol that discourages conversations with the president of the United States by the FBI director about anything that might involve the president. That’s a general aspect of the protocol that’s usually required to ensure that there is no confusion about political interference or any kind or even the impression or the appearance of political influence on the FBI. That’s the standard procedure. You just said it was appropriate for the president of the United States to ask whether or not he was under investigation. Why is it appropriate if that’s not consistent with the guidelines at the Justice Department to avoid that very encounter?"
HUCKABEE SANDERS: "We’ve talked to several legal scholars who have weighed in on this and said there was nothing wrong with the President asking that question."
