Tim Ryan: Pro-Life Dems Should Be Welcomed into the Democratic Party

‘When we were the majority, we had 36 pro-life Democrats in the House of Representatives’

EXCERPT:

PRESS: "Is there a place in the Democratic Party for a Democrat like Heath Mello?"
RYAN: "Absolutely. Needs to be. If you want to have a majority party in the country, if you ever want to govern again, you need to not agree with people who are pro-life. Having been a former pro-life member of Congress, I am now a pro-choice member of Congress because I learned about the issue and understood really well what women were going through, I got married, I had kids myself, I understood the complexities of the pregnancies, the whole nine yards. But I'm a pro-choice member. When I got here, I think when we were in the majority, we had 36 pro-life Democrats in the House of Representatives. And I haven't checked this stat, but we probably had another 10 to 15 that would maybe vote for partial-birth abortion. They were pro-choice but they voted for that partial birth ban."
