John McCain: There Will Be Penalties in Our Relationship with China if They Don’t Do the Right Thing on N. Korea

‘The key to this in the short term is China’

EXCERPT:

McCAIN: "Frankly, over the years we have seen nothing from China. They propped up North Korea and they could shut down their economy in a week or two if they wanted to. And they've had it both ways. To think that a united Korea would somehow be a threat to China is just ridiculous and outrageous. So I think that we have to make it clear to China that there will be penalties in our relationship with China unless they do the right thing and the right thing is to prevent this kind of crisis that has enormous consequences. You know, Andrea, sometimes things happen by accident and so I believe that China has got to understand that the United States of America cannot live with a situation where North Korea has this kind of capability."
