RUSH TRANSCRIPT Patriots until ░░░░░░░░ very end Three founding ░░░░░░░░ presidents exited from this ░░░░░░░░ on the anniversary of ░░░░░░░░ their greatest achievement the ░░░░░░░░ of July which this ░░░░░░░░ is happening on Sunday ░░░░░░░░ you haven t already ░░░░░░░░ your calendars The second ░░░░░░░░ and fifth presidents John ░░░░░░░░ Thomas Jefferson and James ░░░░░░░░ all died on independence ░░░░░░░░ in what the New ░░░░░░░░ evening post which is ░░░░░░░░ newspaper that alexander Hamilton ░░░░░░░░ called a quote coincidence ░░░░░░░░ has no parallel that ░░░░░░░░ came from the paper ░░░░░░░░ July 5 th edition ░░░░░░░░ 18 31 That s ░░░░░░░░ day after James monroe ░░░░░░░░ his last at his ░░░░░░░░ in law s home ░░░░░░░░ New York City at ░░░░░░░░ years of age after ░░░░░░░░ long battle with illness ░░░░░░░░ years earlier monroe had ░░░░░░░░ preceded in death by ░░░░░░░░ fellow revolutionaries Adams and ░░░░░░░░ marking the close of ░░░░░░░░ era Some historians like ░░░░░░░░ ellis refer to Adams ░░░░░░░░ Jefferson as the odd ░░░░░░░░ of the American revolution ░░░░░░░░ met as delegates at ░░░░░░░░ first continental Congress in ░░░░░░░░ 75 And Adams personally ░░░░░░░░ Jefferson to draft the ░░░░░░░░ of independence Where Jefferson ░░░░░░░░ tall and philosophical in ░░░░░░░░ demeanor Adams was short ░░░░░░░░ prone to emotional outbursts ░░░░░░░░ this the pair would ░░░░░░░░ close friends in their ░░░░░░░░ of diplomatic service both ░░░░░░░░ home and abroad in ░░░░░░░░ Especially after the death ░░░░░░░░ Jefferson s beloved wife ░░░░░░░░ John Adams and his ░░░░░░░░ Abigail would open their ░░░░░░░░ to the widower treating ░░░░░░░░ as family However fiery ░░░░░░░░ over the role of ░░░░░░░░ in the new American ░░░░░░░░ divided the two men ░░░░░░░░ different political camps And ░░░░░░░░ the nasty election of ░░░░░░░░ year 18 hundred in ░░░░░░░░ Jefferson unseated Adams after ░░░░░░░░ of mudslinging back and ░░░░░░░░ in the press because ░░░░░░░░ news was a problem ░░░░░░░░ then too their relationship ░░░░░░░░ into silence They would ░░░░░░░░ exchange a word to ░░░░░░░░ other for more than ░░░░░░░░ decade But as the ░░░░░░░░ wore on and the ░░░░░░░░ men took a step ░░░░░░░░ from the hectic world ░░░░░░░░ politics to focus on ░░░░░░░░ really matters in life ░░░░░░░░ began to renew their ░░░░░░░░ through correspondence In fact ░░░░░░░░ at one point even ░░░░░░░░ to Jefferson saying quote ░░░░░░░░ and I ought not ░░░░░░░░ die before we have ░░░░░░░░ ourselves to each other ░░░░░░░░ indeed for the next ░░░░░░░░ years they would do ░░░░░░░░ that on political topics ░░░░░░░░ big and small That ░░░░░░░░ how it came to ░░░░░░░░ that as Adams lay ░░░░░░░░ on the fourth of ░░░░░░░░ in 18 26 he ░░░░░░░░ roused himself from unconsciousness ░░░░░░░░ mutter Thomas Jefferson still ░░░░░░░░ what he did not ░░░░░░░░ at the time was ░░░░░░░░ his long time frenemy ░░░░░░░░ preceded him in death ░░░░░░░░ hours before It was ░░░░░░░░ 50 th anniversary of ░░░░░░░░ day My last guest ░░░░░░░░ Chris Flannery the host ░░░░░░░░ the American story podcast ░░░░░░░░ a senior fellow with ░░░░░░░░ claremont institute dedicated his ░░░░░░░░ episode to this providential ░░░░░░░░ and he joins us ░░░░░░░░ to discuss thanks for ░░░░░░░░ here tonight Chris Hi ░░░░░░░░ good to be here ░░░░░░░░ More coincidence with these ░░░░░░░░ did they reflect on ░░░░░░░░ declaration and saying their ░░░░░░░░ Well the 50th anniversary ░░░░░░░░ independence was a big ░░░░░░░░ in America And there ░░░░░░░░ celebrations organized all over ░░░░░░░░ place So the mayor ░░░░░░░░ Washington D C Invited ░░░░░░░░ of these great Americans ░░░░░░░░ his celebration and they ░░░░░░░░ both too ill to ░░░░░░░░ But Jefferson took occasion ░░░░░░░░ write a letter a ░░░░░░░░ letter in America it ░░░░░░░░ his last letter which ░░░░░░░░ have record in his ░░░░░░░░ And in that letter ░░░░░░░░ sent his regrets to ░░░░░░░░ mayor of Washington he ░░░░░░░░ took occasion to write ░░░░░░░░ the significance of this ░░░░░░░░ July fourth and especially ░░░░░░░░ significance of the central ░░░░░░░░ of the American revolution ░░░░░░░░ all men are created ░░░░░░░░ In that letter it ░░░░░░░░ his hope and expectation ░░░░░░░░ that idea would spread ░░░░░░░░ around the world And ░░░░░░░░ break the chains of ░░░░░░░░ wherever they came across ░░░░░░░░ He said he hoped ░░░░░░░░ would take the annual ░░░░░░░░ of Fourth of July ░░░░░░░░ renew their devotion to ░░░░░░░░ great cause of freedom ░░░░░░░░ great day comes in ░░░░░░░░ and Thomas Jefferson author ░░░░░░░░ declaration of independence and ░░░░░░░░ advocates for independence and ░░░░░░░░ on the same day ░░░░░░░░ Americans started to learn ░░░░░░░░ this Newspapers took a ░░░░░░░░ to learn about this ░░░░░░░░ slower to travel in ░░░░░░░░ days many Americans thought ░░░░░░░░ was much more than ░░░░░░░░ great coincidence John quincy ░░░░░░░░ wrote in his diary ░░░░░░░░ learned about this this ░░░░░░░░ divine favor for America ░░░░░░░░ Fourth of July this ░░░░░░░░ coming up Sunday I ░░░░░░░░ And I believe it ░░░░░░░░ be 245 anniversary of ░░░░░░░░ momentum date What about ░░░░░░░░ lives of John Adams ░░░░░░░░ Thomas Jefferson to commemorate ░░░░░░░░ have a happy fourth ░░░░░░░░ year Well both Jefferson ░░░░░░░░ Adams believed that education ░░░░░░░░ critical for free people ░░░░░░░░ especially education in the ░░░░░░░░ and habits of self ░░░░░░░░ And they both thought ░░░░░░░░ documents of the American ░░░░░░░░ and founding that best ░░░░░░░░ was the best way ░░░░░░░░ get the education and ░░░░░░░░ documents would be declaration ░░░░░░░░ independence So I think ░░░░░░░░ you re reading with ░░░░░░░░ and family only Fourth ░░░░░░░░ July and reading the ░░░░░░░░ of independence out loud ░░░░░░░░ talking about it and ░░░░░░░░ about it That s ░░░░░░░░ Jefferson and Adams would ░░░░░░░░ and hope you would ░░░░░░░░ what Jefferson recommended in ░░░░░░░░ famous letter You would ░░░░░░░░ your devotion to cause ░░░░░░░░ freedom which both of ░░░░░░░░ did pledge their lives ░░░░░░░░ and sacred honor When ░░░░░░░░ comes to educating You ░░░░░░░░ a great educators millions ░░░░░░░░ Americans that we re ░░░░░░░░ thankfully taking part in ░░░░░░░░ this day Where can ░░░░░░░░ right now support what ░░░░░░░░ do at American podcast ░░░░░░░░ kara Yeah you
