RUSH TRANSCRIPT BLITZER In ░░░░░░░░ interview James Clapper the ░░░░░░░░ director of national intelligence ░░░░░░░░ the president s speech ░░░░░░░░ him worry about his ░░░░░░░░ to the nuclear codes ░░░░░░░░ s pretty amazing You ░░░░░░░░ of general Clapper He ░░░░░░░░ under 10 American presidents ░░░░░░░░ sorts of the most ░░░░░░░░ intelligence positions out there ░░░░░░░░ he s raising this ░░░░░░░░ about the current president ░░░░░░░░ the United States When ░░░░░░░░ heard that what was ░░░░░░░░ reaction AXELROD Well it ░░░░░░░░ stunning because I overlapped ░░░░░░░░ with Jim Clapper in ░░░░░░░░ I know him to ░░░░░░░░ a sober serious committed ░░░░░░░░ servant someone who is ░░░░░░░░ partisan in any way ░░░░░░░░ someone who isn t ░░░░░░░░ to throwing around incendiary ░░░░░░░░ And for him to ░░░░░░░░ the president in that ░░░░░░░░ and to raise these ░░░░░░░░ seemed to me really ░░░░░░░░ and probably reflected thinking ░░░░░░░░ others in the intelligence ░░░░░░░░ national security community And ░░░░░░░░ s most disturbing and ░░░░░░░░ summed it up in ░░░░░░░░ comments last night is ░░░░░░░░ worse things go for ░░░░░░░░ president the worse he ░░░░░░░░ to get We re ░░░░░░░░ it now The more ░░░░░░░░ feels embattled the more ░░░░░░░░ lashes out and creates ░░░░░░░░ problems I have one ░░░░░░░░ concern wolf That is ░░░░░░░░ much as I respect ░░░░░░░░ Clapper the thing he ░░░░░░░░ hanging is what we ░░░░░░░░ do about it He ░░░░░░░░ I don t think ░░░░░░░░ s fit for office ░░░░░░░░ he had no real ░░░░░░░░ to that And the ░░░░░░░░ was that somehow there ░░░░░░░░ be some effort to ░░░░░░░░ him or at least ░░░░░░░░ s how some people ░░░░░░░░ have heard it And ░░░░░░░░ think we have to ░░░░░░░░ very very careful when ░░░░░░░░ have these discussions because ░░░░░░░░ have a system a ░░░░░░░░ system and if people ░░░░░░░░ a sense that there ░░░░░░░░ some extraordinary measure that ░░░░░░░░ going to be taken ░░░░░░░░ affect what they would ░░░░░░░░ as a bloodless coup ░░░░░░░░ a third of the ░░░░░░░░ supports this president That ░░░░░░░░ a very dangerous road ░░░░░░░░ go down If you ░░░░░░░░ did go down that ░░░░░░░░ you re opening a ░░░░░░░░ s box that will ░░░░░░░░ end So I was ░░░░░░░░ little nervous about general ░░░░░░░░ s comments even as ░░░░░░░░ took them as a ░░░░░░░░ very serious admonition.”
