Matthews: If You’re a ‘Really Nasty’ Right Winger Don’t Go See ‘Hidden Figures’

Hornaday: “It’s an old-fashioned popcorn movie you can take the kids to’

RUSH EXCERPT:
HORNADAY: "I could see a scenario where the two front-runners for best picture are “La la land” and “Moonlight” and I could see a scenario where that votes splits and “Hidden figures” could sneak through because it’s a beloved movie. People agree with you, Chris. It’s the one movie that over the holidays I recommended more than any just because it’s just such an easy movie to love and it appeals to so many people."
MATTHEWS: "The way they did it, so tricky talking about race and ethnicity in this country but they found a way to make a movie mainly about African-Americans which was so incluesive in the way it grabbed everybody that went to see it. It wasn’t like a small movie. It was a big — you have to go for these scenes, these scenes, these attractive people and the way the cop stops and you realize they’re doing good stuff and he gets out of their way. He was not necessarily a good guy this cop but he became one."
HORNADAY: "It does have this — it’s an old-fashioned popcorn movie you can take the kids to."
MATTHEWS: "I don’t care if you’re right wing — well, if you’re nasty right wing don’t see it. If you’re a reasonable conservative — "
