McCabe Now Says Rosenstein Wasn’t ‘Counting Votes’ on the 25th Amendment

‘Rod brought it up in a wide ranging conversation’

EXCERPT:

MCCABE: “So, Rod brought up the 25 Amendment mentioned it in a course of a wide-ranging and frenetic conversation. It is not something that I am aware if he took any action to pursue. I don’t know of any other meetings that included discussions of it. It was simply one thing, one topic in the midst of a whole host of issues that we were thinking about and -- and kind of working through our heads at that time.” [crosstalk]
GEIST: "Did he present that idea to other cabinet officials? Because, as you know, he had to --"
MCCABE: "Yeah."
GEIST: "-- count heads to see do I have the votes to remove the president."
MCCABE: "Not that I’m aware of. I have no indication of that."
SCARBOROUGH: "And what about wearing a wire? What did the conversation -- did he say in that meeting I wear a wire to get evidence on the president?"
MCCABE: "Rod offered to wear a wire, said he could wear one. He was never, you know, searched or patted down when he went in and out of the White House. It was a remarkable thing for a deputy attorney general —"
SCARBOROUGH: "Were you stunned when he made that offer?"
MCCABE: "Absolutely."
