Evan Bayh: I’m Not Sure Resolution on Saudi Arabia Was Directed at Trump as a ‘Rebuke’

‘I think what you have here is a difference in policy’

EXCERPT:

FAULKNER: “First of all,l I want to get the politics at play here. Was this a rebuke against President Trump?"
BAYH: "Harris, I’m not sure it was directed at President Trump as a rebuke, certainly by the Republicans, perhaps by the Democrats. I think what you have here is a difference in -- in policy. We are trying to accomplish two things. Number one, send a strong unambiguous message that kidnapping, torture, and murdering a journalist like this is not acceptable. We won’t tolerate that kind of thing, on the one hand. While on the other hand, preserving a relationship with a very important ally that is the principal counterweight to Iran in that part of the world. So I think what you have here is a majority of the Senate saying the president is striking the balance wrong as a matter of policy rather than — by the Republicans, rather than the being personally aimed at the present."
