CNN’s Hennessey: Trump ‘Is Doing the Saudi PR Work for Them’

HENNESSEY: "Right. So he is doing the Saudi PR work for them, saying maybe it is this rogue element, whether that is something we should be accepting as face value. Nobody believes that. Donald Trump doesn’t believe these denials. What he does is he needs a talking point to sort of get through to his next — to his next point and avoid holding people accountable who he doesn’t want to hold accountable. This is the same strategy he adopted on the Russia investigation, saying he believed Putin’s denials over the assessment of the U.S. intelligence community and his own Administration. Maybe it was this 400-pound hacker on the bed. The congressional Republicans went along with it that time. Didn’t hold him accountable, didn’t stand up for the basic and obvious truth that all of us understood. The question is whether or not they’re going to do the same thing now. You know, one thing I think is potentially relevant is Turkish officials who appear to be leaking that there may be very hard evidence and the nature of audio or visual proof, that actually might box in either the Administration itself or certainly congressional Republicans that are worried about being embarrassed over the long term."
